Exposure to sunlight in daily routine is essential for living a healthy life. According to a new study, sunlight increases the production of nitric oxide, which helps dilate blood vessels and improve their flow.

It also provides sunlight to the internal setup of our biological rhythm. Our pineal gland needs bright sunlight during the day and darkness in the evening to produce melatonin. Therefore, our rhythm of light and dark during the day directly affects our sleep quality. Melatonin production is not just a determinant of the sleep cycle. It is also of great importance for the ovaries and fertility. It also determines mood and energy level by influencing many other cellular and hormonal functions. Perhaps most importantly, sunlight reacts with the skin to produce vitamin D, which reduces the risk of many diseases such as heart attack, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. It stimulates the pancreas to produce insulin, improves dental health, regulates muscle tone, relieves headaches and strengthens the immune system. Active vitamin D is one of the most potent cancer cell inhibitors. It provides protection against cancer by preventing out-of-control cell division. This makes it a protective shield against all types of cancer, including melanoma.

Vitamin D also plays a role in the formation of sex hormones. A woman who does not have enough vitamin D in her body may not have a healthy response to estrogen, even if her healthy ovaries and circulating hormonal levels are normal.

As can be understood from all this, vitamin D plays a very important role in our overall health. Therefore, it is important to meet our daily needs. It is beneficial to sunbathe in a safe amount in summer and to use vitamin D supplements in winter. It takes some time for vitamin D to be synthesized in the skin. To speed up the process, you can apply some olive oil or a thin layer of sesame oil to your body. In order to increase the absorption of supplements, you should definitely consume fatty foods beforehand.
